Rane, who spent eight years in prison in a concentration camp for prisoners of war, comes home all the città lo accoglie come un eroe. È problematico invece il rinserimento nella vita familiare. La moglie Lisa è innamorata di un altro uomo, il figlio Mark non lo riconosce come padre. La notorietà che circonda il maggiore Rane attira su di lui anche l’attenzione di un gruppo di teppisti. Questi, dopo averlo pedinato, irrompono nella sua abitazione e cominciano a seviziarlo nel tentativo di fargli rivelare il luogo in cui sono nascosti i risparmi della famiglia. Le torture a cui è stato sottoposto durante gli 8 anni di prigione l’hanno reso un duro e pertanto nonostante il dolore Rane non rivela il nascondiglio. Sfortunatamente rientrano in casa la moglie ed il figlio...
Commento:
Rolling Thunder is certainly one of the revenge movie more successful blacks and American cinema. Positioned in the mainstream post-Vietnam (we are in 1977) becomes apparent the same highlight all the problems of reintegration of soldiers into normal life. Major Rane is designed as a character who has now lost all emotion, no reaction when his wife reveals his treachery, let alone when your child has doubts about his father figure. His only smiles are limited to plastic public appearances, picking up the helpless embrace of the Texas community of joyful return of a war hero.
William Devane (substitute Kris Kristofferson, originariamente contattato per interpretare il ruolo del maggiore Rane) è sotto tutti gli aspetti perfetto per la parte con la sua monoespressività apatica ed atona che calza alla perfezione la personalità di un soggetto che, ormai, ha già subìto tutto dalla vita ed è freddo e distaccato da tutto ciò che lo circonda. Il maggiore Rane, dopo l’assassinio della moglie e del figlio da parte di alcuni banditi messicani, ritroverà la sua ragione di vita nella ricerca della soddisfacente vendetta. Uscito dal coma, indotto da uno sparo a bruciapelo, raccoglierà tutta la sua esperienza e la sua capacità d’assalto per porre fine all’esistenza degli uccisori dei suoi cari. This film had a limited distribution in our country, released on VHS by Stardust in 1987.
