Commento:
Domenico Paolella approda al genere poliziottesco, dopo anni passati a dirigere peplum ed avventurosi, in un periodo non certo ridente della sua carriera. Dopo diversi anni senza work was hired by CAP for what in some ways looks like a remake of the apocryphal "Those of the Caliber 38". Although these products were used mainly to ride the commercial success of the loaf, Paolella, author and very little film on command, to customize their own way in the event this project providing ideologically and formally at least a basic social criticism that is well association with the unflinching script Bags made from.

Paolella focuses on the social unrest of the period, and nurtured by the people sull'amarezza increasingly suspicious and discouraged against the police. The Bologna filmed in "The Police and lost "is a neurotic city and conspiracy, where the quiet life is easily broken by thieves and thugs looking for easy money. These are the years of Marseille, the first big drug racket and the processing of innocuous and simplistic thief from a killer armed and dangerous. This new symbol of the underworld is masterfully embodied by the figure of Valli, unscrupulous extortionist who sow panic and terror among the people.

established the climate of fear to the police there is little time to find the villain and his gang. For the occasion is established a task force engine, the "special brigade", led by the energy commissioner Griffins, played in excellent way by Marcel Bozzuffi (The Violent Arm of the Law). Valli is instead played by a very young and the late Vittorio Mezzogiorno, in his convincing impersonation of a person lonely, dark and ruthless.

Many elements are quite atypical for the genre to discover while watching, from the many explosions that the mad bomber Valli is delighted to bestow on those who do not pay protection money, the virtuosity on motorcycles (including trips on Montagnola scales and a chase on the porch of St. Luke), reaching almost gore elements that follow the vein of a violent and cynical poliziottesco to be discovered.

The final hard does is mark exasperation with the aplomb of a compact and dry film surely be counted among the classics of the genre, which perhaps never had the visibility it deserves. Perhaps precisely because of its strong themes that draw on the facts of crime for the period was not well received by film critics who, on many occasions, did not scruple to destroy.

"Police and lost 'is available on DVD published by the Cecchi Gori, which also interesting to interivsta Dardano Sacchetti, here co-writer with the director.

Memorable Scene: "The law is like la minchia: si allunga e si ritira a seconda delle occasioni”.
